Who I Am
Art is my language. People are my purpose.
I'm Rumeel Sharma— a filmmaker, theatre director, producer, and social worker based in New Delhi, India. For over a decade, I've lived at the intersection of creative expression and community responsibility, believing that the most powerful stories are the ones that reflect real lives and ignite real change.
My journey into cinema and theatre wasn't just about the craft — it was about the conviction that art has the power to challenge, to heal, and to amplify voices that are rarely heard. Every project I direct carries that intention: to hold a mirror to society, to celebrate cultural identity, and to spark conversation that outlasts the final frame.
Beyond the screen and the stage, I work directly with communities across rural India — coordinating water sanitation drives, supporting youth development through arts education, and partnering with NGOs to deliver health and welfare programmes to those who need them most.
“I don't separate the artist from the activist. For me, they are one and the same.”
Philosophy Pillars
01—
Authenticity in Storytelling
I believe the most enduring films and performances are rooted in truth. My work draws from lived experience, cultural memory, and the stories communities tell about themselves — not the stories imposed upon them.
02—
Cinema as Social Mirror
Every production I undertake is guided by a simple question: does this matter? Whether it's a short feature drama or a full-scale theatrical production, I choose projects that reflect the complexities of human life and challenge audiences to look closer.
03—
Art as Action
Humanitarian work is not separate from creative work — it is creative work. The same discipline, empathy, and vision that goes into directing a film goes into planning a community health drive or a youth arts workshop. One informs the other.
